HISTORY OF SANTOKBA DURLABHJI COLLEGE OF NURSING

SantokbaDurlabhji College of Nursing is a unit of SDMH hospital a registered society under SantokbaDurlabhji Trust. It is an educational institution located in Sitapura, Jaipur and is affiliated to Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, Jaipur, Rajasthan known for its dedication to provide high-quality nursing education and healthcare training. 1. Foundation and Establishment : According to Shri YogendraDurlabhji ,Santokba is the story of his Father’s vision which impacted a million lives. It is the story of the love and the dedication of a family that, for almost 59 years now, has made Rajasthan a healthier place to live in. It is the story of nurses, of technicians and doctors, of carpenters and electricians, of patients, attendants and residents. It is not about martyrdom or about sacrifice but about care, compassion and concern.Khelubhai, or Khailshankerji, conceptualized SDMH in the 60’s in the course of his daily walkathons with Dr.TarachandjiGangwal.

SantokbaDurlabhji College of Nursing and SantokbaDurlabhji School of Nursing are two premier projects of the Society in the field of training in nursing and attract students from the length and breadth of the state of Rajasthan and also from other state.

The journey began with a vision to create an institution that would not only provide top notch education but also make a meaningful impact on society. SantokbaDurlabhji school of nursing was established in the year 1976 with the name “Rukmani Devi SantokbaDurlabhji Memorial Hospital and Research center” to translate the ideals and philosophy of SantokbaDurlabhji Trust into reality. In recognition to the generous support from Shri Ganesh Rana the school was renamed as “Chand Bihari Sita Devi Rana School of Nursing” in 1995 and finally “SantokbaDurlabhji School of Nursing” in the year 2024. During the entire saga of 59 years we commenced our adventure with 15 students in the year 1976 with an amazing growth of 60 students per batch from the year 2006.

SantokbaDurlabhji College of Nursing has its inception in the year 2022 under the guidance of the SantokbaDurlabhji Trust a healthcare and educational institution. It is named after SantokbaDurlabhji, a philanthropist and a prominent figure in the region, who is known for his contributions to education and healthcare. The College and Hostel buildings, now located at Sitapura industrial area, Ramchandrapura, Jaipur were inaugurated in October 2019.

Our BSc (N) program, which commenced on 24th March 2024, having over the year grown exponentially, overcoming the initial challenges Since its inception, SantokbaDurlabhji College of Nursing has served as a platform that bridges the existing gaps between academia, industry and society. With every program it offers, the college charts its own unique path, creating students who comfortably adopt multidisciplinary thinking and are driven by a strong desire to build to a better tomorrow. Today, we stand tall offering nursing programs with the best infrastructure, manpower, and resources; a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence.

2. Affiliation and Recognition : SantokbaDurlabhji College of Nursing is affiliated with the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), Jaipur. It is recognized by Rajasthan Nursing Council (RNC) ensuring that the nursing education it provides adheres to the highest standards. Recognition by Indian Nursing Council is under progress

3. Academic Excellence : Over the years, the college has consistently maintained a reputation for academic excellence. It offers various undergraduate and postgraduate nursing programs, such as:

B.Sc. Nursing: 4-year program, combines credit/semester systems, focuses on competency, offers electives, and enhances skills through self-directed learning.

GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery): is a three-year course that combines theoretical instruction with practical sessions to prepare students for careers as general nurses and midwives.

The college is maintaining high academic standards. Co-curricular and extracurricular activities are part and parcel of our training programme which shape the personality and the character of our students. These programs are designed to prepare students to meet the challenges of modern healthcare systems both in India and abroad.

4. State-of-the-Art Infrastructure : The college is known for its modern infrastructure and facilities. It boasts well-equipped classrooms, auditorium, advanced laboratories, a comprehensive library, and state-of-the-art simulation labs. The focus is on providing a conducive learning environment with hands-on clinical practice in SDMH hospital.

It also has a provision for Safe and secure In-house hostel facilities with mess services. Keeping in mind, “Cleanliness is Godliness”. hygiene is given prime importance. Hostels are equipped with safe drinking water, CCTV Camera and security personnel for safety. In addition, recreational facilities are also made available. Hostel has efficient wardens 24*7

5. Clinical Experience : One of the key features of SantokbaDurlabhji College of Nursing is its strong focus on clinical exposure. Students have the opportunity to gain practical experience by working with patients under the supervision of experienced healthcare professionals in 525 bedded multispecialty parent hospital.SantokbaDurlabhji Memorial Hospital is a hospital in Jaipur city of Rajasthan state in India. The hospital was inaugurated by the then prime minister of India Late Smt. Indira Gandhi in 1971 and was then the first private hospital of State. SDMH is accredited by both NABH and NABL.

6. Faculty and Research : We have an excellent team of nursing educators comprising of Principal, Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and tutors who dedicate their time for instruction, supervision, guidance and clinical teaching The college is staffed by experienced and well-trained faculty members who are experts in the field of nursing. The college also encourages research, and faculty and students alike engage in various research activities to contribute to the advancement of nursing science.

7. Commitment to Social Welfare : SantokbaDurlabhji College of Nursing is committed to contributing to the well-being of the community. The AvedenaAshram, the Rehabilitation and Limb Fitting Center, the Outreach Programme, Project Prayatna(eradication of thalassemia) and several other projects that serve to alleviate human sufferings. Students are encouraged to take part in health camps, awareness programs, and other social welfare initiatives to promote health and wellness in underserved populations
